AVP wins tests performed by the European centre for information security "Secusys"
Cambridge, UK, July 25, 2000 - Kaspersky Lab Int., an international anti-virus software development company, announces that its flagship anti-virus product AntiViral Toolkit Pro (AVP) for Windows operating system took first place in the comparative review, carried out in July 2000 by the European centre for information security "Secusys" (www.secusys.com).
Among the other anti-virus products featured in the review were, Grisoft AVG, Dr.Web, F-Secure Anti-Virus, CA InoculateIT, ESET NOD32, Norton AntiVirus, Panda Antivirus Platinum, Trend Micro PC-Cillin, Sophos Anti-Virus, Norman Virus Cleaner and McAfee VirusScan.
In the final results of the test AVP was rated the absolute winner, sweeping all of its competitors aside. Kaspersky's famous virus hunter is the only product to show a 100% result in detecting computer viruses and other malicious mobile code in 14 out of 17 of the existing categories, which include DOS, Windows, macro, script, Linux, batch, Java viruses, Trojans, Backdoors and Internet worms. In the other 3 categories, AVP also performed impressively, scoring an outstanding 99% and 99,99% detection rate.
Commenting on the features of AntiViral Toolkit Pro, Roland Garcia, the senior reviews editor at "Secusys", emphasised the product's easy-to-use user orientated interface, moderate system requirements and the reliability and effectiveness of the Internet-based updates to the anti-virus database. Special praise was awarded to the AVP built-in heuristic scanner, developed especially to combat against unknown viruses not included in the anti-virus database. During the tests it returned one of the best results, detecting 78% of DOS and Windows viruses with the AVP anti-virus database disabled.
Advanced functionality, leading technologies and the best-of-breed virus detection defined the aggregate result: AVP was the only anti-virus product to achieve the maximum score of 5 points.
