Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) organized, today in Manama, first Cyber Drill for Cyber Hawks hosted by Kaspersky Lab. Authority Chief Executive Mr. Mohamed Ali AlQaed was the Chief Patron at the event which gathered more than 60 IT professionals from the country’s public sector representing the Financial, Educational, Energy, Aviation and Healthcare sectors.

During the event, Kaspersky Lab featured a unique exercise called the Kaspersky Interactive Protection Simulation (KIPS) - designed for the management board responsible for government web services. The objective of this training is to illustrate the importance of securing these modern computerized systems and demonstrate how an industrial security incident can impact a government organization.

“We are honored to cooperate with Kaspersky Lab to hold the first Cyber Drill that simulates reality for the Cyber Hawks team to handle online threats and attacks that could be exposed to by any public or private entity. This drill was conducted in accordance with government direction and in line with the work plan as well as efforts to raise the level of information security within the government sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain. We value this fruitful collaboration with Kaspersky to benefit from their experiences and international expertise with the purpose of setting a strategy for online security all around the world,” iGA Chief Executive Mr. Mohamed Ali AlQaed.

This event aligns with Kaspersky Lab’s effort to raise cyber security awareness across Bahrain and neighboring GCC countries. Kaspersky Lab’s main objective is to educate nations on the various industrial threats that target infrastructures and the importance of IT leaders across nations to comprehend the potential threats that such attacks may cause. The company plans to work with top educational institutes and universities in the country to make sure that the next generation of IT professionals are equipped with the best knowledge around the topic.

Bahrain has recently achieved a maturing stage of Cyber Security readiness as per the assessment of the International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) published in the Global Cyber Security Index 2017 which is a very significant step for Bahrain. The country is working to achieve higher stage in Cyber Security readiness.

“We are pleased to play a leading role in the prestigious Cyber Hawks event, as we believe that cyber security consciousness and education are essential pillars in combating cybercrime, whether at the public or private sector levels. At Kaspersky Lab, we are aligned with Bahrain’s government vision and are dedicated to introduce training programs, next-generation intelligent services and products that will assist Bahrain taking steady steps towards a nation safe from cyber threats,” said Maxim Frolov, Managing Director of META at the Kaspersky Lab.

It is worthy to note that the Information & eGovernment Authority, through the Cyber Hawks event, seeks to enhance the security level of the infrastructure, systems and government eServices in accordance to government direction and in line with its Work Plan that works towards raising the security level in Bahrain’s government sector where every public entity nominates candidates to participate in this initiative in an aim to find cooperation amongst government entities as well as address any type of attack attempts.
