{"id":3407,"date":"2014-05-29T10:00:46","date_gmt":"2014-05-29T14:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/me-en.kaspersky.com\/blog\/?p=3407"},"modified":"2020-02-26T18:58:38","modified_gmt":"2020-02-26T14:58:38","slug":"fifa-malware","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/me-en.kaspersky.com\/blog\/fifa-malware\/3407\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Play Strong Defense Against Malware Attacks During the World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The World Cup is just two weeks away, and like every international event \u2013 catastrophe, cause, sport and otherwise \u2013 the tournament to crown the greatest soccer (football) team across the globe is bringing out online attackers in droves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.kasperskydaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2014\/05\/05111255\/phishing-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4912\" src=\"https:\/\/media.kasperskydaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2014\/05\/05111255\/phishing-1.jpg\" alt=\"phishing\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These threats go beyond the usual, low-level racket of <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.malwarebytes.org\/fraud-scam\/2014\/04\/world-cup-2014-cash-prize-tickets-email-is-a-419-scam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">selling fake tickets and prizes,<\/a> playing off of that old-school deceipt to launch phishing websites and attacks designed to infect systems with malware programs. <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.kaspersky.com\/about-us\/press-center\/press-releases\/kaspersky-lab-reports-phishers-and-scammers-target-upcoming-fif)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Many of these sites<\/a> are designed to look and feel like legitimate web pages, even using URLs that begin with \u2018https\u2019 \u2013 the sign that supposedly means a website is secure and trustworthy for sharing personal and financial data. Some have even offered the chance to get free tickets, showing users their personal information including their physical addresses \u2013 stolen from other online sites \u2013 to appear legitimate. One such site included a supposedly downloadable ticket, which turned out to be a malicious form of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.securelist.com\/en\/analysis\/204792315\/Online_banking_faces_a_new_threat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Banker Trojan<\/a> that steals sensitive data far more harmful than they appear, and <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.kaspersky.com\/about-us\/press-center\/press-releases\/kaspersky-lab-reports-phishers-and-scammers-target-upcoming-fif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kaspersky Lab recommends the following steps<\/a> to keeping your system \u2013 and your personal data \u2013 safe and secure:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Read carefully, and make sure the site you are visiting is safe, even if you think it\u2019s a site you\u2019ve visited regularly before \u2013 the best phishing sites are incredibly good knockoffs.<\/li>\n<li>Be aware that URLs that begin with the \u2018https\u2019 may not always be secure \u2013 attackers know how to get such listings.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t trust emails from unknown senders, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.com\/blog\/opening-unknown-attachments-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">never click through links or download attachments<\/a> in emails from unknown senders until you can verify the authenticity their origins.<\/li>\n<li>Always run a system with a quality, up-to-date anti-malware program.\n<div
